Preparation and Application

  1. Reduce line pressure to a maximum of 60 psi. Make sure surface is completely clean using emery cloth followed by solvent wipe, both provided.
  2. Choose type of repair below before proceeding to final steps 3, 4, and 5.

JOINT: Mold Syntho-Steel™ putty into a rope and place around entire circumference of the joint, pressing firmly into place. Begin wrapping rubber tape on the outer half and work towards the leaking joint by stretching the tape to its maximum tension. Use entire roll of pressure tape; continue until the leak has stopped.

CRACK / PINHOLE: Knead Syntho-Steel putty into a uniform consistency. Place 1/2” ball of putty above crack / pinhole. Wrap tape in overlapping manner working toward the putty, pushing it downward into the crack/pinhole. Wrap the putty firmly into place by stretching the tape to its maximum tension DIRECTLY over the putty, until the leak has stopped. DO NOT CHASE THE LEAK as each wrap provides additional pressure.

NOTE: Maximum active leak repair Pressure Rating is 60 psi. DO NOT USE ON PE OR PEX!!!!

  3. Use gloves enclosed and remove Syntho-Glass® from foil pouch. Soak in temperate water for 20 seconds.
  4. Tightly wrap entire roll of Syntho-Glass approx. 2" above and below the repair, and directly over the rubber tape.
  5. Squeeze and mold Syntho-Glass in the direction of wrap, removing excess water and spreading resin until tacky to touch (approx. 3 min.). Wait 30 min. at 75°F before returning pressure above 60 psi.
